HERE’S how HATE works:
Everyone already knows the true story or basis of hate- the tribalism, the competition, the prejudice, the bigotry, the history, the hate groups, etc.
So… let’s skip to the present…
The CURRENT HISTORY of HATE (A Short Summary)
Around 1987, a fired DJ from a Kansas radio station comes up with an epiphany- “there are a lot of angry people out there.” The fired DJ gets another radio spot and takes to the air addressing these very angry people, feeding their anger by spouting hate and prejudice, and assigning blame to every group possible for the situation and hardships these people find or consider themselves to be in. “It’s not your fault,” he tells them. “You are not NOT delusional for feeling this way!” He himself hardly believes a word that flies out of his mouth, but it’s immediately clear that his falsehoods and accusations, and provoking anger further, are resonating. His audience starts to build. And build. And build. Before long, he is the undisputed king of HATE RADIO.
Let’s go back a little earlier now… the Nixon years. And this part has to do with Math.
There’s an up and coming young man in the Nixon administration named, Roger Ailes. His thing is communications and advertising. He learns a lot of tricks from his time with Tricky Dick and other infamous Republican operatives. Some years later, after Nixon, h comes up with a great idea- he figures out how to win (for the Republicans).
First, he realizes (here’s the math part) that there are five major television media outlets (MSNBC had not yet begun). Theses stations divide up 100% of the pie- Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and others. Therefore, it makes simple sense. Take out the 35-40% of Republican viewers, create a news station that is just strictly for them, and let the others split up the rest. They get almost the entire Republican viewership and eventually 5 other major stations split up the remaining 60-65%. What a simple idea!
Let’s go further inside Ailes’ mind: “We get them to thinking what WE want them to think… not what they would normally think without any nudging. And we also get them so worked up, they would vote for Beezlebulb over anybody who represents the other side.”
That’s how easy it was. Fox News was never a risk. It was a simple concept. There was already an entire audience just waiting for them. There just had to be someone with the greed and sinister mindset (Rupert Murdoch) to take advantage of them.
Now, these two characters, Ailes and Limbaugh, for a while their paths lined up together. Limbaugh had a short-lived tv series, in which Ailes was the executive producer. They were a team. And one of them, or both at the same time, figured out how to win. In other words, how to help the Republicans win. How to get even a Donald Trump elected.
The only way to get a Donald trump elected was to get their audience to hate the other side so, so, so, so much.
Donald Trump would not have gotten elected 5 or 10 years ago. There was not enough hate. 2016… Hillary Clinton… a perfect storm.
And some thought, Hillary’s gone now, they won’t hate these next candidates as much. WRONG. Hillary’s gone, but the hatred isn’t.
Just some quick notes on how hatred works…
One person starts spewing hate. Normal, decent people stand up and criticize. The person doesn’t like being criticized. He increases his attacks. His audience increases their hate. The criticism increases. The. The attacks increase. The hate increases further… until eventually normal, decent people start to hate those who have been filled with hate. Both sides now hate each other. But… they went first! They started it!
And it goes back and forth. The hate isn’t the same… but the accusations sort of cancel each other out. Who’s right? Who’s telling the truth. And here’s where they show they are wrong: They go further. A place you’re not supposed to go…
They say, “They (meaning everyone who is not a Republican) HATE America!”
Rush Limbaugh and Fox News, the two greatest sources of hate for the last two decades. And now… welcome… Donald Trump.
